1 dead in Sunnyvale apartment fire

One person died in a Sunnyvale apartment fire Sunday afternoon, and investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze. Fire crews were sent to 1235 Wildwood Ave. about 12:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a fire in the building. When they got to the scene, crews found a unit fully engulfed in flames and were able to evacuate residents, including people in the four units impacted by the fire, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officials announced Monday. One person was found dead inside the unit where the fire started, officials said. The fire was under control within about 40 minutes and crews prevented it from spreading to other buildings. The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation. No additional details were provided.
