3M plans to close Fairmont facility, lay off 62 employees later this year

The State Rapid Response Team says 3M has announced plans to close a Fairmont facility and lay off 62 employees. Under the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, layoffs are expected to begin Dec. 18 and continue through Dec. 31, when the facility is scheduled to close. The 62 employees being laid off come from a variety of positions, including human resources, machine operators, plant manager, supervisors and more. Some are represented by the United Steelworkers Union, Local 142B Unit 11, but the State Rapid Response Team said bumping rights do not exist.
